Association of Professional Landscapers Awards 2021 - Finalists
Our Client first introduced themselves to us at our garden centre early in 2019. We quickly developed a good working relationship and embarked on a full consultancy process to establish a design. This process included a full site survey, a discovery phase, followed by a series of drawings, site visits to previous landscape projects, supplier visits to chose materials and finally a CAD drawn design, from which we would build the garden.
We worked to the following brief. 'To create a prairie garden with a contemporary twist. Birds, bees and butterflies are important guests to the garden. You would like 2 dining areas to maximise the natural light in the garden and one covered sofa seating area. These are to be lit of an evening along with other features in the garden. You are keen to explore the options available for defining your boundary lines. There are no restrictions regarding future maintenance of the garden. No bright yellows, pale yellows are fine along with pinks, purples and whites. To proportion the three main elements of a garden - hard landscaping, sort landscaping and lawn - approximately by equal thirds.'
We began the build late 2019, a process that would take some 5 month to complete. Headed up by our Landscape Manager Ryan Foster and his expert team, the relationship with our client by this point was really strong, Ryan would update them daily as to progress and discuss through various options available.
To be involved in a landscape project using real quality materials was an absolute pleasure. A fine example for our team to be able to showcase the skills they had hard earnt over many years. Hard wood timber pergola, decking and screens, porcelain patio, clay brick pavers pathways, steel edging, pop up irrigation system, and a day away from site training how to construct the 'pod'. Acknowledged at a national level, being shortlisted as a finalist at the National Association of Professional Landscaper Awards 2021, we are delighted with the finished results.
Our first design meeting with Matthew was a delight – he had certainly listened to our brief, our likes and dislikes and gauged our characters in the design.
We loved the basic outline of the design and after a few design meetings and minor alterations the sketches were sent to be drawn up on CAD by one of the team. The results are the hugely impressive garden we now enjoy.
We quickly became impressed by the skills and attention to detail shown by the landscape team. We are so happy with the end result it is hard to convey that in writing but Matthew, Ryan and the teams we had working for us were amazing. They all have a great sense of passion and ownership about their work. The craftmanship of some of the hand built wooden structures is amazing and the choices of plants is perfect.
