HORTICULTURIST

This is a fantastic opportunity for a horticulturist to join our established garden management company and become part of our friendly team of qualified and experienced horticulturists. As Horticulturist you'll assist with the maintenance and development on a selection of outstanding client gardens and commercial grounds within the Essex countryside. We have two yard locations based in Essex - Danbury, Chelmsford & Great Bardfield, Braintree; our horticultural teams work on location in and around these areas.

About you

The ideal candidate has an understanding of maintaining gardens and grounds to a contractual time scale, creating and designing planting schemes, and is capable of delivering a high standard of horticultural practice. It is important that you bring a proactive and flexible approach to the role, ability to work on your own initiative, and you are team driven with a strong work ethic. It is preferable that you have a recognised horticultural qualification and professional horticultural experience from working in private gardens and/or commercial grounds.

Your day-to-day duties and responsibilities as a Horticulturist will include:

  • General maintenance, development and presentation of garden or grounds

  • Competent with lawn care and soft landscaping

  • Maintaining plant beds and borders: planting, mulching, pruning, cultivation, watering and weed control

  • Assisting with carrying and moving plants, tools, equipment and heavy loads

  • Using a range of equipment and machinery for: strimming, mowing, leaf blowing, hedge cutting and tree works

  • Designing and planning planting schemes for gardens and grounds

  • Supervising the work of Trainee Horticulturists

  • Building client relationships, maintaining and improving client satisfaction

Candidate knowledge/skills/experience/qualities:

  • Good knowledge of plants, plant botanical names, horticulture techniques, and pest and diseases

  • A minimum of 2 years of professional gardening experience

  • Knowledge and use of garden equipment and machinery

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

  • Cooperative and enthusiastic nature

  • Confident communicating with clients and assisting with queries

  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

  • Attention to detail and pride in work

  • Maintains a high standard of work

  • Creative, innovative and efficient at work

  • Conscientious, organised and with good time management

  • Keen to develop in their role and undertake training

Salary:

From £26,910 per annum

Schedule:

  • 45hours/week - day shift

  • Monday to Friday

Work enviroment:

Outdoors - all weathers

Uniform:

A company work uniform is provided - including PPE

Licence/Certification:

   • Horticultural qualification

   • PA1/PA6 Spraying qualification - preferred

   • A full clean driving licence - a company van is provided to travel to clients' gardens
