OUR STORY

A teenager, a bike, a big idea

The seeds of County Garden Management were sown in 2004 by a teenager on a bike with a big idea. I had a handful of Nan’s friends in need of some help around the garden and my first gardening round.

When school ended I enrolled on a three-year horticultural course at Writtle Agricultural College. Throughout my time at Writtle I continued to build my client base while expanding my knowledge, putting all the theory into practice on evenings and weekends.

When college came to an end I’d already decided I was going to continue to expand on what I had begun. I started trading as County Garden Management in 2007. Within the first six months of trading I had taken on one full time employee.

Over the next five years the business grew steadily, on average by an employee a year. By then we had taken on several large gardens and estates and laid firm foundations upon which the company could grow.

In 2012 we set up a dedicated landscape team to deal with the demand we were receiving from our clients. January 2014 saw a successful application to join The Horticultural Trades Association and The Association Of Professional Landscapers, associations we are both proud to be a part of.

Over the last few years the business has continued to expand, adding tree surgery and design to our services, creating a second base in Braintree and opening the garden centre and nursery, The Bardfield Garden Centre in April 2016.

The future holds some very promising ventures both long and short term as the company continues to grow and expand. The teenager has grown up, the bike is long gone but the big idea still remains.

Tom Brindle

Hi I’m Tom, CGM’s Chelmsford branch manager. I completed my horticultural degree at Writtle University College in 2017 and have experience managing gardens in the UK and Australia.

Robert Blackett

Hi, I’m Rob, CGM’s branch manager for Braintree. I am a certified arborist with training in climbing, tree pruning and dismantling, and have many years’ experience in horticulture.
